How to park in Brno

Parking in Brno is a nightmare puzzling many drivers. Where can I park? How do I pay? Where will new zones be added? Let’s take a look and finally get rid of the worries about parking and blue zones once and for all. By the way, with shared cars you don’t have to worry about these issues. Carsharing vehicles in Brno have free parking even during the reservation period. Details at the end of the article.

Why resident parking

Different cities handle resident parking differently, but the goal is usually to calm traffic and ensure enough parking spaces for residents. Vienna is an example of an experimenter, which even temporarily turned some streets into pedestrian zones during the quarantine.

The Brno system is designed to be very disadvantageous for those who only commute to the city and leave their cars parked on the street for several days, thus clogging the streets. It is on the contrary advantageous for Brno residents - for a small annual flat fee, significantly more free parking spots appear near their homes.

The system also regulates long-term parking in busy areas (offices, post offices, etc.), increasing the chances that you will find a parking spot there.

The “Flower petal” principle

As you may have heard, Brno has chosen the so-called “flower petal” principle for its parking system. In practice, this means that with your parking permit you can park not only in the area where you have permanent residence, business headquarters, or branch (the flower’s center), but also in all the petals - neighboring areas. This expands the territory where residents and subscribers can park. The only exception is the narrowest city center, where only people from this area (1-01) can park.

More expansions are listed on the website parkovanivbrne.cz.

Courtyards

A new element in resident and general parking in Brno is regulating entry into some Brno courtyards. This is another benefit of Autonapul shared vehicles, as shared cars are still allowed access to courtyards.

However, courtyards are not part of the standard resident parking system because they are not public roads. At the request of Brno citizens, the city implemented entry restrictions (prohibition signs) to eight courtyards.

The courtyards in question are located in these streets:

  • Drevarska-Bayerova
  • Capkova-Jana Uhra
  • Grohova-Capkova
  • Rybarska-Krizkovskeho
  • Rybarska-Veletrzni
  • Nadvorni-Naplavka
  • Kridlovicka-Nove sady
  • Nove sady

You can enter these courtyards with a shared Autonapul vehicle or your own car only after obtaining a permit by providing a lease agreement or property ownership proof in the area. Entry regulation is enforced by the Brno Municipal Police.

Resident, subscriber… Who am I?

Resident, subscriber, or visitor? In Brno, you will encounter three categories that determine your parking options.

Resident

You become a resident if you have permanent residence in the area (temporary residence for foreigners) or own property there. If you belong to this category, you can obtain a parking permit for 200 CZK per year. The price rises for each additional vehicle you register. Residents can also provide up to 300 free parking hours to their visitors.

Subscriber

You are a subscriber if you are a self-employed individual or legal entity with a registered office or branch in the area. The annual parking permit for one vehicle costs 4,000 CZK and rises with each additional vehicle.

Visitor

Visitors park in Brno for free on weekends. On working days, you must pay according to the applicable zone. The closer you are to the center, the more expensive parking will be.

Brno visitor parking zone breakdown

Zone A is the historic center, you are not allowed to park there without a special permit. Visitor zones are therefore two: B and C with hourly rates shown in the attached table.

Zone B forms a ring around the historic center.

Zone C covers further areas toward the periphery. Not all city districts are integrated into the system yet, so always watch for blue lines on the road.

Regarding payment, you have four options:

With our shared cars, parking is free and hassle-Free

We saved the best for last. With Brno Autonapul cars, you can park in all zones without worries and for free. Cars from zones Brno - A, Brno - Veveri, and Brno - Centrum can be comfortably left in a blue zone at the end of the reservation.

Our cars have permission to enter Brno’s historic center

So you don’t have to worry about prohibition signs with the addendum “Except vehicles with a permit from MMB.”

The following rules apply:

  • Namesti Svobody - entry and parking are prohibited.

  • Sub-area Jostova + sub-area Masarykova - Koblizna - shared cars are allowed to enter, but not to park (there are no parking spaces there), so only driving through is permitted.

  • Other sub-areas - if there are blue zones, you may park there; entry is unrestricted.

Carsharing handover zones in Brno

Brno operates several handover zones - designaed parking areas. You pick up and return shared cars within the same zone. (It doesn’t have to be the exact same parking spot, just the zone.) The exact pickup address appears in the reservation system (Android / iOS) after ending the previous reservation.

Only the electric cars and the Scala at the Main Railway Station have a fixed parking spot.

Scala Cheryl: A few steps from the main train station

We have long seen that vehicles handed over near the city center are very popular, both with Brno locals and “outsiders.” We decided to make pickup in the center easier. Scala Cheryl now has a dedicated spot right by the main train station. It is picked up and returned at the “Platan” parking lot by the Nove Sady stop.

Fully charged electric cars thanks to handover locations at charging stations

At Autonapul, we also offer electric cars with dedicated handover locations. This way, you can use a 100% electric car without the need to buy one.

With Autonapul, parking worries simply vanish. Once you park comfortably, you can continue your journey by Rekola or train.

We have partnered with Czech Railways, so you can exchange your collected CD Points for a 250 CZK discount on Autonapul services, making your travel across the Czech Republic even better.
