Carsharing for companies: backup fleet, flexibility and savings on business trips

Carsharing for businesses saves both money and time. Instead of investing in their own vehicles, entrepreneurs use shared cars as needed - without the hassle. Just like the accounting firm Nastejnelodi.cz, which has relied on Autonapul carsharing since 2013.

Martin Tyšer and Tomáš Buchwaldek have used Autonapul since the early days of their business - and they still do. Compared to maintaining their own cars, shared vehicles save them about CZK 10,000 per month. Whenever they need it, a “backup fleet” is available- and they can pick up a car wherever they have clients: near Prague, Pilsen, Brno or Olomouc.

You don’t want to haul ten binders on a bus

It all started with two students and an innovative accounting startup. Today, they run two successful companies. From Aš to Jablunkov, Nastejnelodi.cz is changing how people see accounting, while their HR agency Right Indicada provides workers mainly to car manufacturers in the Moravian-Silesian region. For business travel, they use public transport, their own cars, and carsharing.

Electronic accounting is standard today, but in 2013 it was still very much the “paper era”. And hauling ten binders onto a bus? Definitely not ideal.

“From the beginning, we’ve approached accounting differently. We treat accounting documents as valuable data, and we’ve always wanted personal contact with our clients. We managed to visit many of them by public transport, but a bus ride even just outside Ostrava could take ages. That’s when we started looking into cars,” recalls Martin Tyšer, co-founder of Nastejnelodi.cz.

Why they didn’t want to own a car

Neither Martin nor his business partner wanted to own and maintain a car. They knew they wouldn’t use it enough, it would just sit there, tying up money. Rather than invent their own sharing system, they chose a proven carsharing solution and joined Autonapul.

What Nastejnelodi.cz needed:

  • A car without the hassle - no inspections, insurance, or registration to worry about.
  • A car that costs nothing when not in use.
  • An efficient combination of train and car - working en route, using the car only when public transport falls short.

Carsharing in the company: Set up in one afternoon

“Autonapul’s offer came at just the right moment. Instead of inventing our own rules for a company-owned car, we joined a tried-and-tested solution. We didn’t want to invest hundreds of thousands into our own car or burn CZK 10,000 a month on operational leasing. So we put CZK 5,000 into a deposit, received an access card, login for the booking system, and started driving. For me, that’s the ideal setup,” Tyšer explains.

Things moved quickly in the beginning. The startup had just a few employees and handing over the access card took only a moment. When the HR agency Right Indicada launched in 2015, both the team and the number of business trips grew. Today, the office manager handles company carsharing cards. Employees just let him know they need a car, and he takes care of the rest.

“We don’t restrict trips. If I’m heading out at five in the morning, I reserve the car the night before, park it in front of my house, and go. Autonapul only charges for the first 10 hours of every 24 - that’s very fair,” he adds.

Everyone at the company knows whom to contact if they need a shared car. “We don’t impose strict limits on our people or their booking times. If I or a colleague head out early, we just reserve a car the night before and park it at home. In the morning, we know we’ll hop in and go. Autonapul charges only the first 10 hours of each 24-hour period, which I think is very fair,” says Martin Tyšer.

Shared cars across the Czech Republic and Slovakia, vignettes included

According to Tyšer, a major benefit is the distribution of vehicles across the country.

“We have clients in Plzen, Prague, Zlin… I take the train, then pick up a shared car in town. I catch up on emails during the ride, then just drive to the client.”

He also appreciates that toll stickers are included: “When we drive to Zilina, for example, we even save on the Slovak highway vignette. It’s not a huge amount, but it’s a nice bonus.”

Advantages of company carsharing - according to entrepreneur Martin Tyšer

  • Backup fleet of cars available anytime
  • Czech vignette included, some cars include foreign ones too
  • Flexibility, with both planned and ad-hoc trips possible
  • Different car sizes depending on need
  • Usage data shows when buying a company car makes sense

Shared cars as a tool for managing the company fleet

Most trips now come from the HR agency. They eventually bought company cars, but only thanks to data from carsharing.

“Our financial manager tracks the invoices. If we pay over CZK 15,000 for three months straight, we consider buying. But if it turns out to be due to a one-off campaign, the costs drop again and we don’t buy. This analysis helps us make sound decisions,” Tyšer explains.

They’d rather sell their car than quit carsharing

“Even if we owned dozens of cars, we wouldn’t quit carsharing - mainly because of the flexibility and the access to cars in other cities,” reflects Martin Tyšer, co-founder of the accounting firm Nastejnelodi.cz.

“In theory, we might one day sell a company-owned car. That would bring in some cash, but the loss in value is usually significant. With operational leasing, we’d be paying for a car we no longer need for months. With carsharing, we avoid that worry entirely, which is another reason we wouldn’t quit even if profitability fluctuated. Not to mention the variety of vehicles, which I can also use for personal trips,” says Tyšer.

Bottom line? No entry barrier, no commitment, low deposit.
“If you’re wondering how to handle mobility in your company or family, try carsharing. You have nothing to lose and zero risk,” encourages the co-founder of Nastejnelodi.cz.
