Unfortunately, we bring unpleasant news regarding the permission for carsharing cars to park in places with payment machines. With effect from 1 November, it will no longer be possible to park for free in these spaces.
Council decision
The Liberec City Council made this decision at its last meeting and the information reached us last week. We are very sorry about this decision, and although we tried to reverse it, due to the short deadline we have not succeeded (yet).
The reasons are not entirely clear to us. However, we continue to seek the renewal of the permit so that Liberec can continue to move in the direction of promoting more sustainable forms of transport, of which car sharing is clearly one. The trend is for cities to support carsharing and we would like to convince Liberec councilors that they should remain pioneers in this direction.
Research shows that one shared car can replace 15 to 20 privately owned cars. Expert articles such as Akademie mobility web also offer arguments in support of carsharing.
So where can you park now?
- As of 1 November, you can only park at parking meters during your reservation and at your own expense.
- We have been forced to cancel the smaller Centre zone and Fabia Laura will move from this to the larger City zone.
- We will "carve out" an area with parking meters from this zone also.
Please review the design of the new parking zone and email us your comments and recommendations on how we can possibly further modify it to make parking easier for you.
What can we do next?
Thank you for your understanding and we hope that together we can turn the situation around. Liberec is currently working on parking in other parts of the city where parking meters and resident zones may be introduced in the future. This concerns the housing estates Františkov, Staré Pavlovice, Aloisina výšina, Kunratická, Broumovská.
Feeling maps and questionnaires are already closed, but public hearings in the five selected housing estates will be held in the first half of November. Come in person or write to your representatives. Any vote that mentions the use of carsharing is certainly valid.
